Ag shame, we lost again!
Monday July 24 2006 Although some feel the Springboks performed better, generally the readers are not convinced that the Springboks have improved enough and they certainly don't share coach Jake White's optimism - who suggested the Boks could still win the Tri-Nations. As most of the readers point out, the Boks lost again and not by a small margin either. You still have the Write of Reply, on this or any other subject!"NO. Don't forget it was the 2nd stream of All Blacks, I just wish Jake White would disappear into the biggest blackest hole."
- Disappointed Springbok supporter
"Just like with crime. Im gatvol with the bokke to!!!!! and everybody that says it was a better performance..BOOO HOO.
"I've got a great idea..Please buy the whole team and Jake a ps2 and get rugby 2006..they can all play the game..see how it should be done. You can only win this game if you can put fases together and defend like hell!!!..
"Sitting here in Taiwan without DSTV or kudu club (they dont broadcast rugby here) its ussually a big get together for a rugby game at a pub or so..sometimes 7am in the morning or late at night...NO MORE YOU IDIOTS!!!!! Im gatvol of our running backs that cant run angles or only straight into another player..or the SA mentality that if we cant win the ball we at least can win the fight...you sorry bunch of amateur sh..s.
"Didn't we find out long ago the rush defence doesn't work..what happened to first time tackling???? I was taught that taking a guys legs out brings him down..NOT TRYING TO GRAB THE BALL ARROUND THE CHEST.
"O yes..our scrums..when are we going to stop thinking that we are the biggest, strongest and baddest rugby players....its not a boxing or wrestling match. It takes brains these days to play rugby not just bullies!!!!
"O yes and lastly our Japanese fly-half...now theres a chicken without a head..lets throw some more money at him..maybe he can buy a brain!!!!
"Sorry to all of you that said this was a better performance, but I think you should go and live in a real rugby nation to learn what should be done..
"Please find an overseas coach that knows what he is doing!!!!..Im sure theres enough super 14 coaches in Aus and NZ that would be willing to step up to the challenge..They kick all our asses in super 14 so why not? WE HAVE LOST THE PLOT !!!!
"Poor baby Jake White..when a coach says ja but if we got those penalties and kicked the ball out and that maybe we can get through on points...bla bla etc etc etc etc etc.
"You know what if did,...hy het in sy broek.....You win rugby on the field with a winning score line, thats the only way you sorry sack of......We cant even string 5 fases together!!!!
"Sorry bokke..get your house in order youve lost ten guys that will rather sit at home or sleep."
- Charl du Plessis
"What has happened to the BOK pride, you lost again and you were never in the match after the first minute. You lost the loose ball encounter decisively, you lost the scrums, you lost the penalty count, you lost the kicking duel both to posts and the awful line kicking and most importantly YOU LOST THE MATCH.
"The only two positives were the lineout steals and the Butch James defence around the first channel which limited the AB's attacking opportunities, pity about Butch's and Percy's line kicking.
"Wake up, Jake may have done you proud up to three matches ago (even more if you are honest about the games against Scotland) clearly he and his current coaching comrades have lost their way and no matter how he wishes to spin it the Boks have been beaten badly not once, not twice but three times in succession. Yes two of the games may be away from home but if you do not address the issues then you will be beaten in South Africa and stand no chance at the world-cup.
"Get rid of him as head coach and learn from the AB's and Australia whom have a coaching team and not one dictatorial and dominant coach whom has run out of ideas and lost his way. You have the players and the coaching depth in South Africa but you are just not using them wisely enough.
"In Nick Mallet as head coach with Rassie Erasmus as forwards coach and Dick Muir as backs coach you would be better served. Jake White is clearly a good tactician but has been found lacking as a people motivator, it is not advisable at such short notice to loose his experience therefore you would be best served to keep him in tactician role, but take the responsibility for the team performance away from him as his judgement is clearly clouded by personalities i.e. his inability to see beyond his spat with Luke Watson.
"Once again you lost the match up front because you were not contesting the loose ball. Secondly without Bakkies you have lost the beef in your pack and urgently need a uncompromising lock to support Victor no offence but you were not competitive in the scrums.
"Losing is never good enough, passion means nothing if you still lose.
"When will you learn to use your heads beforehand and off the field as it is the cause of your losses. Fix this and pick the right players for the position and get the balance right especially in the loose forwards and you will be competitive. You need a dedicated fetcher, an intelligent and barn storming number eight and a robust line-out contributing blind-side flanker. Your current mix is wrong and the players are wrong, fix this and halve the battle will be won.
"Good luck because you need luck with Jake in charge."
- Chris de Klerk
"Marginally....if anything we avoided the humiliation of another shut-out. Lets not forget this was a 'mid-week' team which the kiwi management fielded & they still cleaned our pipes. So JW has issues selecting Watson at flank..let start him at fly-half!!!"
- Merryck Griffiths
"Poor Johnny-boy! Are you so ignorent + influenced by the person whose keeping you in the team(your closest friend , jakey ) that you do not realise that you played against half a all black side.
"The words 'our boys' clearly reflects who + what you are !! Because you being maybe rated 8th best hooker in the country is definitaly not one of our boys + so is 90% of the rest of your + jakey's team.
"Jakey's + johny-boy's philosophy in life:
"We can not dazle them (except saru) with brilliance lets together baffle them with bullshit
"If you had any desency ; you and jakey would just dissapear out of the rugby supporters life's sa would then again be where we belong number 1 !!!! Not number 4"
- Johan Zurich
"Yes a bit but don't blame the players or the coach. Remember the old saying "no normal sport in an abnormal system." Ask grant Fox what he thinks of the selection pressures."
- Gerda Clark
"Voel jul soos ek? Weereens so klein bietjie teleurgestel, maar nie so seer nie, want diep binne my het ek geweet dat die bokke nooit daai blacks sou kon klop nie.
"Kyk, as ons na al die coaches/rugbyskrywers geluister het het die allblacks B [8 veranderinge] die Bok B
[sonder burger/pretorius/de villiers/ botha ens] geklop. Maar dan is daar iets fouts met die rigting v rugby en/of hoe ons dink.
"To think, that as springboks supporters, it's expected that a lose by 18 points, should be seen as satisfactory! It's a disgrace if that is the state of Springbok rugby.
Percy se dae is getel. Gee iemand anders nou 'n kans sodat die genoeg toets ervaring kan opbou voor die WC 07. Nou dat Juan beseer is(?), moet hul onmiddelik vir Luke Sydney toe stuur.
"As Butch vanaf 'n woensdag oefening ingesluit kan word, dan is 2 weke genoeg vir unlucky Luke om in te pas."

"We were in numbers at the Suncorp Stadium to support our Boks mostly of course South African or Ex-South Africans. The green jerseys were everywhere. However I have never felt so rejected by a Springbok team and its coach as on Saturday the 15th July 2006. Despite this I (and even more so my children, here in Australia) will never throw the sick baby out of the cot we remain supporters of every player elected for the team, providing he carries the emblem with pride. Several players however just now do not qualify for this support. We were so proud of our team last year in Dunedin I guess Scalk Burger was there.
"Important to note how lame the 2005 Wallabies were with an injured backline. However, mobilise the South African hooker, elect a specialist flyhalf, play the in form players, speed up the fullback moreover employ the principles of the game of chess: control the middle of the board by the best in the positions of loose forwards, scrumhalf and flyhalf (compare the 2005 team) and the rest will follow in support.
"Lets forgive White for what he has said we support the best player in every position regardless of so-called colour: a player of colour elected on merit is worth 2 players of colour elected by transformation principles. A threatened non-confident player of colour can not be transformed in a focused representative player of the national team."
- Francois Malan
"No! Not by along way. While the guys played with real guts the composition of the team that Jake White assembled was wrong. Where were our best players. E.g. Kobus Visagie, Luke Watson, Ruanne Pienaar etc?"
- Jimmy Crompton
"Yes - better play but with Jake White and John Smit at the helm, South Africa will never again be a world superpower in Rugby. There are 3 simple steps to be taken: Choose the best Players, Replace the coach with an Ex-Player, who knows what Springbok Rugby is about - and most importantly, get Errol Tobias involved a.s.a.p. He seems to be the only one who really knows what's going on and speaks his mind."
- Brandon
"Once again an undisciplined display. Save for Paulse's try never looked like scoring. And why continue with vd Linde at tighthead? He has been sown in 2 successive matches he cant handle it. Clear to me it is al in the management, both on and off the field."
- Paul Stephen
"Yes it was much better. A lot of positives came from the game. There was a tentative willingness to attack with Butch James at flyhalf which is encouraging but again the Boks were conservative for most of the game. Our defence was solid but a team cannot defend for 80 minutes all the time. We will continue to lag the All Blacks, Australia and France until we take a few more risks on attack and acquire the mental strength to continue to play positive attacking rugby even if mistakes are made initially.Nothing ventured nothing gained!
"I am glad to see the more innovative South African provinces (Sharks, WP and Cheetahs) enjoying some success in the Currie Cup this year. I think the Blue Bulls hegemony over the past couple of seasons has deceived us into believing that their arachaic game plan is a blue print for success even at the international level and it is not. Hopefully the innovation shown by the Sharks and WP in particular will persist and rub off on the Springboks."
- Sizwe Nxedlana
"Not acceptable , we need to bring in some new guy,s , please I do not mind losing for the right reason, let Victor Matfield Sit on the bench next week in Australia , bring ib Ruan Pienaar to support Du Preez , Percy is becoming an liability change him now , give JP a run there nxt week , bring in Luke Watson , let Morne' Steyn back up Butch , bring in BJ Botha when we are back in SA, and it looks like Habana is just collecting his paycheck , drop him , just look at the currie cup this year we have some great exciting players , imagen having Diack, Keegan and luke Watson as your loose trio , Wow ! also Basson or Alpon at full back, Natals Barrit Bradley is also going to be great . Last but not least when thw team gets back in SA , please Drop Jake White , he is now past due , like way past due , That would have such an impact on the the lazy senior players that are on cruise right now , they would have impress the new coach or else they can move onto England , France or Japan , Hasta la vista Jake !!"
- Booysen Hugo
"Much better....Had Monty slotted his 4 missed penalties or was it more, we would have been up at 29 around the time the AB's had 25!"
- Warwick Anderson
"Well was this better than last week. No question, BUT WE LOST AGAIN.
"When are the damn fools who makeup the selection panel going to learn that to go into a TEst match with a goal kicker who does not have a 95 - 100 % strike rate is like jumping off a Empire State Building without a parachute.
"Anyone who watched the 'Captains run' on Friday evening, before the Brisbane disaster, would have seen Percy take a few balls a practice his goal kicking, he smashed the upright a couple of times, he goaled a few, and missed a couple. There standing on the touch-line was a former Springbok fly-half who introduced the 'soccer' kick into SA. I am sure he could have helped Percy with his problem. The problem appeared again in Wellington, 2 kicks went begging, 6 points went begging,it did not help in the end but they may have been crucial in turning the game. On the circus goes and the ringmaster dances to many tunes played by masters outside the camp.
"In Wellington we dropped a number of passes at crucial times, we have a highly talented skills Coach, the best in the world according to Clive Woodward, is she asked for her input come selection time? If not why not? It seems to me that we need so much visual coaching that there are not enough Visual coaches around to fill the jobs.
"And so we can go.
"Isn't it amazing we have 2 flashes of brilliance and we score 2 tries against the All Blacks !!!. Every kick-off that the Boks had should have been aimed as close to the uprights as possible. No, same old stodigy play from the kick offs.
"Well it is a WEEK OFF - nice life for professional rugby players - into Sydney and then wait for the next game with the Wallabies. Maybe we will yet win one away from SA.
"Why don't the SA public round on the politicians and tell them to lay off telling the Coach whom to select. We may as welL get rid of the Chairman of Selectors as well, I don't recall him EVER pulling on a Springbok jersey to play for the Boks. Perhaps someone can refresh my memory?"
- David Burden
"Much better. Butch was awesome, Olivier was better, Monty is looking his age a bit."
- Lee Williams
"Jake White must have a mansion in La-La land, Os and Percy its time to go you are the weakest link."
- Johan Kriel
"Score line was flattering in the end, much better performance Boks but anything from last week would have been.. but high penalties in our own half cost us the game. Also MAJOR question marks over Percy and his abilities of a goal kicker and a fullback?"
- Aidan Webb
"Give Watson a chance he is a machine."
- Andrew Terlingen
