Wallabies beef up their pack

Paul, Roe and Vickerman start against Scotland

The Wallabies have named hooker Jeremy Paul, lock Daniel Vickerman and No.8 John Roe in the starting line-up for Saturday's Test against Scotland at Murrayfield. It is the first of four Tests for Australia this month, on a tour that culminates with a match against World Cup holders England on November 27.

Captain George Gregan will lead the team in the 23rd Test between Australia and Scotland, marking the opening of the new Scottish Parliament Building in Edinburgh. Fly-half Stephen Larkham and openside flanker Phil Waugh have been named as his two vice-captains.

Mat Rogers and Elton Flatley both return from injury to take their places on the replacement bench, where they will be looking to make an impact at Test level for the first time this year.

The 23-year-old debutant lock Mark Chisholm will also be presented with his first-ever Wallaby jersey, after being named in the match-day 22.

Wallabies coach Eddie Jones says the three changes in the forwards are a result of rewarding those players for their hard work over the last two months and performances off the bench during the Tri-Nations.

"John Roe performed well as a reserve during our last two Tests and has continued to work really hard on his game in the lead-up to the tour," Jones said. "He'll certainly enjoy the opportunity to start in a Test match for the first time.

"Jeremy and Dan are in a similar position.  They have prepared very well and now have another opportunity in the starting lineup, having both been there before."

With the Wallaby backline unchanged for the fourth Test in a row, Jones says the addition of Flatley and Rogers on the reserves bench will only add to the skill and experience to allow the Wallabies to play an attacking game.

"To have two guys in the class of Elton and Mat come back into the team is a real bonus.

"They've both worked really hard on their recovery after the disappointment of missing the entire domestic season and will provide us with good depth and experience on Saturday against Scotland.

"Scotland will be a difficult Test for us first up. We want to play our natural game, but we also want to be able to adapt to the conditions," said Jones.

With Flatley and Rogers joining Wendell Sailor as the three back reserves, Matt Giteau is expected to provide cover at scrum-half if required.

Both Mark Gerrard and Nic Henderson were not considered for selection because of injury.
