Mat Rogers: Touches down for the Wallabies

Should this be the case, Rogers will join rugby league side the Gold Coast Titans a season earlier, thus ruling him out of the Rugby World Cup in France next year.
Rogers is already contracted to the Titans from the 2008 season but an Australian network station reported that he was so disillusioned with rugby union that he was considering bringing forward his return to his former code by a year.
The Wallaby star failed to make a big impact on Australia's recent tour of Europe that saw the speedster start two games at fly-half against Wales and Italy respectively.
Regular fly-half Stephen Larkham was shifted to inside centre in an experiment by Australia coach John Connolly that failed miserably.
Rogers' discipline on the pitch was also brought into question after coming on as a replacement against Ireland, only to be shown a yellow card for punching and take his place on the sidelines yet again.
Titans managing director Michael Searle said that while he had not heard directly from Rogers, he would be in talks with the NSW Waratahs player to gauge exactly where he stands.
While Searle acknowledged Rogers would have to take a "pretty big pay cut" if he were to quit rugby union, he said the Titans still had room under their salary cap for 2007
"We haven't heard anything about it, but if he was [disillusioned] we'd be foolish not to sit down and talk to him," Searle told the Herald.
"We've got a bit left in the cap but he'd have to take a bit of a hit."
Australia Rugby Union (ARU) chief executive Gary Flowers remained uncertain if he would be prepared to release Rogers.
"I'm not going to speculate on things before they happen. I don't propose to enter into that territory," said Flowers.
"Mat's contracted to us next year. With rugby it's quite different too. He's not only contracted to the ARU, he's contracted to NSW as well.
"He's only just returned from the Wallaby tour and he played two full internationals at number ten.
"But I'll certainly be seeking clarification from Mat, because we want a team of players who are absolutely committed to the Rugby World Cup."
