Date set for McCullough hearing
Friday January 12 2007
ERC movesUlster lock Matt McCullough is to answer two complaints of alleged racial abuse of London Irish player Delon Armitage at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday, 9 December, 2006, and at Ravenhill on Friday, 15 December, 2006.
The European Rugby Cup has set the hearing down for Wednesday, 24 January 2007 in Dublin.
The independent Disciplinary Committee will be chaired by Professor Lorne Crerar (Scotland) and also comprise Paul Mauriac (France) and Aurwell Morgan (Wales).
This came after the ERC's disciplinary officer had obtained testimony from both clubs and decided that McCullough did have a case to answer.
There were similar allegations levelled at Charl van der Vliet of Toulon in their match against Pau on 16 December 2006. The player allegedly offended, Guy Jeannard, walked off the field and apparently some sort of peace was brokered but the referee, Eric Gauzins, sent in a report and there was a hearing on 3 January, but the members of the disciplinary committee asked for more evidence. It could take two or three weeks for Van Vliet's fate to be known.
