Preview - Japan v Aus Prime Minister's XV

Accord celebrated

On Saturday, Japan play the Australian Prime Minister's XV at Prince Chichibu Memorial Ground in Tokyo as part of the 30th anniversary of the 1976 Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Australia and Japan.

It is also part of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Japan Rugby Football Union.

This match and the match against the Queensland Reds the following Friday are intended to help Japan's preparations for the Asian qualifiers for the 2007 Rugby World Cup to be played in Hong King later this month.

Japan have made nine changes to the team that narrowly lost to Fiji in July.

While the front row of Yuichi Hisadomi, Yuji Matsubara and Ryo Yamamura remains intact, there are wholesale changes in the backs.

Shota Goto and Keisuke Sawaki team up at halfback, while Genta Akanuma wins his first cap alongside Seiichi Shimomura in the centres. It is an inexperienced pairing as Shimomura has only two caps.

Another player winning his first cap is fullback Go Aruga, who follows in the footsteps of his father, Ken, who won nine caps for Japan in the 1970s. Aruga forms an exciting back three alongside captain Daisuke Ohata, then most capped player in the team with 55 caps, and Hirotoki Onozawa, who has 19 caps, the second most in the squad.

Former captain Takuro Miuchi returns to the team at No.8 and will pack down alongside 26-year-old New Zealander Phil O'Reilly and Hajime Kiso, while Hitoshi Ono, who led the side against Fiji, and veteran Takashi Akatsuka are picked in the second row.

The Australian team is captained by John Roe, nine times a Wallaby Test player.
