It was hoped he would feature for the Ospreys in their vital Heineken Cup clash with Sale Sharks next weekend but he is now facing six weeks on the sidelines.
This is just the latest in a line of injuries to hamper Wales, who have already lost second row Ian Evans to a long term injury which could also see him miss this year's Rugby World Cup.
Cardiff Blues lock Robert Sidoli is also expected to miss the opening game against Ireland on February 4, and could be joined on the casualty list by flanker Jonathan Thomas who is still struggling with a shoulder injury.
Parker only came out of international retirement in November to play under new coach Gareth Jenkins.
He gave a man-of-the-match performance in his first game back in the 38-20 victory over the Pacific Islanders and kept his place ahead of Gavin Henson to face New Zealand two weeks later.
