Speaking to All Blacks.com, Marshall shared his emotions surrounding the fixture.
"After 10 years playing for the All Blacks, it will be a unique opportunity for me to prepare with another team against the All Blacks," said Marshall.
All Blacks coach Graham Henry said while he had no qualms initially regarding the request, he understands there is a precedent for current and former All Blacks playing against their team mates.
There was however an upside for the All Blacks camp.
"This will provide an excellent challenge for whomever is chosen as All Black No.9 for that match to compete against Justin - the second most capped scrum-half in world rugby," said Henry.
After the benefit of a month off, the one-off match will form part of Marshall's Super 12 preparations and has the blessing of his Crusaders' coach, Robbie Deans.
Marshall is a veteran of 10 years and 77 tests in the All Blacks jersey becoming a fixture for All Blacks, forming a clinical partnership with All Black fly-half Andrew Mehrtens in the process.
