Yes, we did debate the pulsating final, which ended in a 28-all stalemate, and considered the merits of all Saturday's heroes. But, ultimately, we went for consistency throughout the season and that, ladies and gentlemen, is why Luke Watson was our choice as captain...
We also had a handful of players who were unanimous selections - Cheetahs wing Philip Burger, Lions fly-half André Pretorius, Bulls No.8 Pierre Spies and Cheetahs tighthead prop Jannie du Plessis.
(For the record, Watson also made all of our teams.)
Here's our Currie Cup team of the Tournament:
15 Bevan Fortuin (Cheetahs):
Steady as a rock on defence and not too shabby as a counter-attacking fullback either. But that booming right boot of his really won us over.
Back-up: Gio Aplon (Western Province)
14 Philip Burger (Cheetahs):
He was the tournament's top try-scorer, 15 tries in 16 games. But he also showed that he has a handy boot and is not scared to tackle, despite his small frame.
Back-up: Akona Ndungane (Blue Bulls)
13 Jaco Pretorius (Lions):
He made the perfect transition from Bok Sevens captain into 15-man star. We're just glad Jake White also noticed his talents.
Back-up: Corné Uys (Western Province)
12 Wynand Olivier (Blue Bulls):
We debated this one for a while, but eventually went with the Bulls' Bok on the strength of him having received more votes than the other candidates.
Back-up: Bradley Barritt (Sharks)
11 Louis Ludik (Lions):
Not an easy choice either, but the Lions' teenage sensation has shown some incredible form this year.
Back-up: Brent Russell (Sharks)
10 André Pretorius (Lions):
When he is injury-free, Pretorius is without doubt the country's premier pivot.
Back-up: Francois Steyn (Sharks)
9 Jano Vermaak (Lions):
Another one of the young guns who left their mark on the competition this year. He had strong competition from Free Stater Michael Claassens, with a late charge and a great final, and young Sarel Pretorius (Falcons), but Vermaak was a bit more consistent throughout.
Back-up: Michael Claassens (Cheetahs)
8 Pierre Spies (Blue Bulls):
Unanimous decision. This man is going to become a legend of the game.
Back-up: Ryan Kankowski (Sharks)
7 Keegan Daniel (Sharks):
This was one of our toughest decisions and we kept Jake White's 'fetchers' very busy discussing this position. Daniel just sneaked in, eventually...
Back-up: Derick Kuün (Blue Bulls)
6 Luke Watson (Western Province, captain):
We are still really puzzled as to why Watson cannot make the Bok squad. If only people could put their egos aside!
Back-up: Kabamba Floors (Cheetahs)
5 Barend Pieterse (Cheetahs):
He showed in the final how valuable he really is to the Cheetahs' cause. And to think he can't make the Bok squad? It is mind boggling!
Back-up: AJ Venter (Sharks)
4 Cobus Grobler (Lions):
His mop of shocking blond hair makes him instantly recognisable, but he has a game to go with the visuals.
Back-up: Francois van der Merwe (Western Province)
3 Jannie du Plessis (Cheetahs):
Another player who can feel aggrieved that he did not make the Bok touring squad.
Back-up: Rayno Gerber (Blue Bulls)
2 Gary Botha (Blue Bulls):
He thrived as captain of the Blue Bulls and grew in stature as the season progressed.
Back-up: Etthienne Reynecke (Lions)
1 Ollie le Roux (Cheetahs):
Another player who stepped up to the plate when the captaincy was thrust upon him midway through the season.
Back-up: Heinke van der Merwe (Lions)
