Joe out of the ordinary again

Rokocoko relieves the drought

Joe Rokocoko's try brought New Zealand their win over the Wallabies on Saturday, and also brought to an end a desperate try drought for one of the world's most prolific wingers.

The All Blacks flyer busted through a tackle from Rocky Elsom, racing down the touchline past Chris Latham then cutting inside Matt Giteau and dotting down, before jubilantly hurling the ball in the air.

"I didn't think it had been that long, but it's always a good feeling to cross the line," he said to the NZPA.

"This week it was just about getting the ball and pinning your ears for the corner first. Once you do that you stretch the defence and you've got two options to go inside or out.

"It was a very skinny track, but in the end you just play off your instincts."

It was nearly a year since he had last scored a Test try, and after a season which saw a return of just one try in thirteen Super 14 matches for the Blues, the boost to confidence was immense.

He was keen to get involved from the first whistle, which he did when an opening minute Daniel Carter crosskick sailed just past Rokocoko's outstretched hand, one of two such kicks that so nearly came off.

Then cam the moment he had been waiting for after just ten minutes of play.

"It was a great ball from Jerry to give me space. Just the whole week I've been working on having a go first and see my options after that, the option was to cut back in and it paid off," he continued.

"The few words about this whole week was just to back myself and I really got close to the individual skill coaches to work on a few things and just gee me up."
